Mask Care Cleaning your mask every day is a very important part of mask maintenance. All masks in the Comfort Series can be cleaned in the same manner. Below you will find the three easy steps to keeping a clean mask:
1. Wash the mask in warm water with a mild soap and air dry; no need to disassemble the mask. Avoid soap with moisturizers.
2. Wash your face thoroughly before using your mask.
3. Inspect your mask. Replace the mask if the cushion becomes hardened or if any parts become damaged.
Even by following these tips, the natural oils in your face will interact with the mask, and over time, the mask will lose its seal. As an informed healthcare consumer, you should be aware of the mask replacement benefits under your healthcare plan. If your plan does not meet your mask replacement needs, talk to your home healthcare provider.

GENERAL
What is the ComfortFusion? The ComfortFusion is a comfortable, lightweight and easy-to-use nasal interface that delivers Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
How does it work? The ComfortFusion has a soft nasal cushion that gently seals around the nose of the patient. The cushion seal is supported by a faceplate and an adjustable forehead arm. By using the adjustable forehead arm “StabilitySelector®” to support and adjust for the optimum cushion angle, the ComfortFusion is able to provide a very comfortable and stable seal, while requiring low strapping pressure on the headgear and low cushion pressure on the nose.
Can ComfortFusion be used with multiple therapy devices? Yes, the ComfortFusion can be used with all Respironics devices, including REMstar® Systems with A-Flex™, C-Flex™, BiPAP® Pro Systems with Bi-Flex® and REMstar® Auto-CPAP systems.
What information comes with the ComfortFusion? The ComfortFusion nasal interface includes a pictorial quick fitting guide and an instruction manual. Inserted in the instruction manual are a registration card, a replacement reminder card and a reminder sticker that can help track and manage your mask replacement cycle. Instructions also can be found on this Web site.
Is the ComfortFusion quiet? The exhalation port, which is located on the swivel elbow on the front of the interface, makes the ComfortFusion exceptionally quiet. The port is specifically designed to disperse air for a quiet flow of exhalation in a direction away from your bed partner. Our trial participants were very impressed by the low level of noise created by the diffusion port.
What did patients in your trials say about the ComfortFusion? Patients in our trials were most impressed by the comfort, simplicity and light weight of the ComfortFusion interface.
What are the numbers on the bottom of the ComfortFusion interface? he numbers represent the Part Number of the ComfortFusion and the lot number that indicates the date of manufacture (YYMMDD). These numbers are used to track the product and allow for detailed user registration.
CHOOSING THE CORRECT CUSHION SIZE
How do I choose which ComfortFusion cushion size to use? The user's manual included with the ComfortFusion contains detailed sizing instructions and illustrations. Instructions also can be found on the Fitting section of this Web site.
Identify the facial landmarks of your face and use the plastic sizing gauge—or the sizing gauge that is integrated into the product bag—to get the right cushion size. Choose the smallest mask cushion size that is wide enough to extend beyond the nostrils but does not obstruct breathing.
ATTACHING/REMOVING THE CUSHION
How do I attach the cushion to the ComfortFusion? The user's manual included with the ComfortFusion contains detailed cushion attachment instructions and illustrations. Instructions also can be found in the video clips on the Fitting section of this Web site.
To attach the cushion: First, note the cutouts and the alignment marks on the bottom of the cushion, faceplate and retaining ring.
Step A: Place the cushion against the faceplate.
Step B: Put the retaining ring around the cushion. Press the ring firmly against the faceplate until all three sides click into place. Lastly, gently tug on the cushion and the ring to make sure all of the parts are securely in place.
How do I remove the cushion from the ComfortFusion? The user's manual included with the ComfortFusion contains detailed cushion removal instructions and illustrations. Instructions also can be found on the Fitting section of this Web site.
To remove the cushion: 1) Lift up under the tab on each side of the retaining ring. 2) Remove the retaining ring and cushion. 3) Separate the cushion from the ring.
ADJUSTING THE INTERFACE
How do I put on and adjust the ComfortFusion? The user's manual included with the ComfortFusion contains detailed instructions and illustrations. Instructions also can be found on the Fitting section of this Web site.
- When first fitting the mask, open the headgear to a large setting and adjust the forehead arm to the highest position. To adjust, gently squeeze the arms of the forehead arm StabilitySelector and slide the arm upward. To make it easier to place the mask and headgear on your face, we recommend disconnecting one of the Quick Clip™ headgear clips.
- Put on the mask. Simply hold the mask cushion gently over your nose and pull the headgear on over your head. Connect the Quick Clip headgear clip, if detached.
- Adjust the top headgear strap first by using the Velcro tabs on the headgear. The forehead pad should be touching the forehead lightly. Adjust the bottom strap so that the mask is sitting gently on the face.
- Connect the tubing (included with your CPAP or bi-level device) to the swivel elbow on the mask.
- Turn on the airflow.
- Lie down and breathe normally through your nose, keeping your lips closed. If the forehead support does not rest comfortably against your forehead, gently tighten the top headgear strap.
How do I adjust the mask if it is leaking? The user's manual included with the ComfortFusion contains detailed instructions and illustrations. Instructions also can be found on the Fitting section of this Web site.
For leaks around the bridge of the nose or into the eyes, gently squeeze the arms of the forehead arm StabilitySelector and adjust it to a lower position. Next, reseat the mask by pulling it directly away from the face and gently setting it back into place.
For leaks under the nose or near the lip, gently squeeze the arms of the forehead arm StabilitySelector and adjust it to a higher position. Next, reseat the mask by pulling it directly away from the face and gently setting it back into place.
Comfort Tip! Do not over tighten the headgear straps. Over tightening can cause or worsen leaks.
TUBING MANAGEMENT
Can I use standard CPAP tubing with the ComfortFusion? Yes, the interface is designed to work with standard 6-foot CPAP tubing. For best results with a lighter weight system, use the Respironics Performance Tubing™. The Performance Tubing is 20% lighter than traditional tubing and is many times more flexible. It provides a more forgiving connection to the device since it is less likely to apply pull or torque to the interface and disrupt the seal.
Can I direct the tubing over my head? Yes, the swivel elbow located on the front of the interface can rotate to permit the tubing to be directed straight down, to the side or over the head. Furthermore, the 6-foot tubing on the ComfortFusioninterface is flexible enough to allow it to be positioned in whatever manner best fits your sleeping preferences.
CLEANING
How often should I clean the ComfortFusion? Hand clean the mask following the instructions below prior to its first use. Thereafter, the nasal interface and tubing must be cleaned daily for best results. The headgear should be cleaned weekly.
How should I clean the ComfortFusion? The user's manual included with the ComfortFusion contains detailed cleaning instructions. Instructions also can be found on the Mask Care section of this Web site. Be sure to thoroughly clean the interface and cushion using a mild liquid dishwashing detergent (avoid using bleach, alcohol, strong household cleaners, and products containing conditioners or moisturizers). Rinse thoroughly. Pat with a paper towel and air dry completely before use. Inspect all parts for damage or wear; replace if necessary.
The headgear should be cleaned weekly or as needed, either by hand or machine washed using the gentle cycle. Attach the Velcro tabs to the headgear straps so they do not latch onto other items in the laundry. Line dry the headgear.
